DONGS VMC: choose from the part layout, not the model number

VMC845 has more X travel than VMC855, but a narrower table and lower load. Compare access, fixture mass and tool changes before ranking these machines.

Official English/Chinese pages and original selection manual reviewed 8 October 2026

Long and narrow, or wider and heavier?

A long row of features

VMC845 lists 950 mm X travel, compared with 800 mm on VMC850 and VMC855. Check whether the drawing's feature span, setup offsets and tool approach need that travel. Its 1000 × 450 mm table and 450 kg load still constrain the fixture.

A wider loaded setup

VMC855 lists 550 mm Y travel, a 1050 × 550 mm table and 600 kg load. VMC850 lists 500 mm Y, a 900 × 500 mm table and 500 kg. Include the fixture, clamps and any rotary equipment in both the envelope and mass comparison.

The spindle must reach the required features while the assembly clears clamps, enclosure and tool changes. Neither the model's number nor table length alone can answer that question.

Swipe the comparison on a narrow phone.

The English and Chinese pages use different model names: VMC855/850/845 versus XH855/XHC850/XHC845. The original bilingual brochure uses VMC855/850/845 and supports the columns above. Put the agreed machine designation and configuration on the order; do not create duplicate model records from translated names.

All three list 7.5–11 kW spindle power without defining the duty of each value. Request the installed motor and its operating curve. VMC845's “BT40-120” designation also needs the supplier's interface drawing; the suffix is not treated here as an independently confirmed bore or diameter.

Check the largest tool together with its neighbours

Diameter depends on magazine occupancy

The original Chinese brochure labels the Ø78 / Ø120 mm tool-diameter entry as adjacent tools / empty adjacent positions. Decide which cutters need empty positions and then check whether the remaining magazine capacity can hold the complete program.

Translate the length and mass rows correctly

The brochure identifies 250 / 350 mm as maximum tool length and 8 / 8 / 7 kg as maximum tool mass for the three respective models. The web pages mistranslate these as table length and weight. The two length values lack operating conditions; request those conditions rather than assuming 350 mm is unrestricted.

Approve the tool-change path

Supply assembled holders, cutters and their dimensions. Verify pull-stud compatibility, magazine type/capacity, long-tool clearance and the change position with the loaded fixture. A spindle interface entry does not establish a supplied controller, holder set or rotary package.

Time the operation that will actually run

Before the trial

Define material, blank, drawing revision, fixture and datums. Name the features and inspection method that will decide acceptance. Use the proposed model and selected spindle/control/tool package.

During the trial

Record cutting, rapid moves, tool changes, chip removal, loading and inspection separately. The 48 m/min rapid entry is not a cutting feed or a full-cycle guarantee. Test representative tool lengths and every fixture station used by the program.

At handover

Keep the accepted part report, tested configuration, settings and program revision. Agree installation, operator training, backups, consumables and destination support. Add service access and lifting/foundation requirements to the footprint drawing.

The brochure's positioning and repeatability values are machine specifications, with no complete test conditions given in this comparison. Set the finished-part requirement on the drawing and verify it with the agreed trial; do not substitute axis repeatability for part accuracy.

DONGS' machining-center range within its wider business

The Chinese official site identifies 山东董氏数控设备有限公司 in Tengzhou. Its company history states establishment in 2014 and a 2023 production-base move. The business describes CNC research, production, sales and service, with turning centers, lathes, vertical/horizontal machining centers and gantry equipment.

The Tengzhou government's original 2025 gazette lists the same Chinese company at entry 660 in the safety-supervision responsibility schedule. That dated administrative entry supports identity/location; it is not a safety certification or an inspection result for these VMCs.

The supplier's recent history emphasizes medium/large turning centers. This profile assesses the three existing VMC records, not every family or claimed customer application. For turning, horizontal or gantry work, obtain the specific current model material and an appropriate trial before choosing a different process route.

The part-layout, tool-change and acceptance guidance above is CNCVerified's editorial analysis. Confirm the contracting entity and the actual delivered configuration, warranty and service responsibilities in the quotation.

Request a fixture-and-tool review

Send the part drawing, material, blank and complete fixture dimensions/mass. Include the largest assembled tools, required magazine occupancy, batch requirement and inspection criteria. State the proposed VMC model, rotary needs and destination.
