Headman T55/500

The reviewed original English T55/500 page lists 550 mm swing, 330 mm maximum machining diameter and 516 mm maximum machining length. X/Z travel is 190/561 mm. These limits describe different parts of the setup; a 561 mm Z stroke does not establish that a 561 mm finished shaft fits with jaws, support and tool withdrawal. Send the complete blank, chuck/jaws, tailstock support and feature coordinates for a build-specific drawing.

Bar-through capacity is 51 mm, whereas the spindle bore is 62 mm. Review the drawtube, chuck or collet, bar shape/condition, feeder support and remnant handling before committing to a bar-fed process. The table separates mechanical-spindle maximum speed of 4000 rpm from built-in-motor maximum speed of 5000 rpm, and gives 11/15 kW continuous/30-minute power. Request the selected drive’s torque curve; do not combine alternative spindle limits.

The base T55/500 table has eight turret positions, a 40 mm maximum boring-bar diameter and 25 mm OD tool size. It is not the similarly named II/500 Super twelve-position reference. Place the complete roughing, grooving, threading, boring and finishing holders on an occupied-position map and check reach/clearance. X/Z rapid feeds are 30/36 m/min; a rapid or turret indexing figure is not the time of an accepted part.

Published X/Z bidirectional positioning accuracy is 0.008 mm and repeatability 0.003 mm; obtain the actual axis-test conditions and serial-unit record. Neither is a guarantee of shaft diameter, straightness or roundness after release. Trial the difficult cut with the intended material, grip/support force and tooling, then measure under agreed conditions.
