How to read IATF 16949, AS9100D and ISO 13485 on a China CNC listing

Queries such as “IATF 16949 machine shop China,” “AS9100 CNC China” and “ISO 13485 CNC machining China” are how automotive, aero and medical buyers start. What those searches are actually asking

Automotive programs want IATF 16949:2016 with a scope that names machining of the part family, plus PPAP language you can put on a PO. Aero buyers want AS9100D (or AS9100) tied to the legal entity that will cut metal, not a sister trading company. Medical buyers want ISO 13485 with traceability that matches the print. ISO 9001 is hygiene. It is not IATF, not AS9100, not 13485.

How to read a scope line

Ask whether the certificate names machining of your material family, or only “sales of machine tools,” “assembly,” or a group HQ. Group certificates that do not name the legal entity on the listing do not count on CNCVerified.

Legal entity

The English name on the plant page must be the name on the certificate. If the certificate is in a parent’s name and the mill is a different company, we do not copy the badge onto the mill.

Expiry

Expired rows are not “verified.” We show a valid-until date when we have it. Empty means we did not file a current scan.

IATF 16949 on a builder listing

IATF without a process that can hold the print is still a miss. A 3-axis job-shop card next to a machine-tool builder’s hall is not an automotive plant. If you need PPAP Level 3, write that clause. “IATF preferred” is not a requirement.

AS9100D on a builder listing

AS9100D without a quality clause you can put on the PO is a brochure. Ask for the scope, the site address, and whether FAI to AS9102 is in the packet. We will not invent a FAIR the plant has not filed.

ISO 13485 on a builder listing

ISO 13485 without material traceability — if your print needs it — is the wrong plant. Clean-room claims stay off the public page unless the datasheet says so.

What CNCVerified publishes

• Certificate name as printed.
• Scope note in English, when we have it.
• Valid-until date. Expired is not live.

Filter Directory by certificate before you shortlist. If the count is zero, do not pretend the plant has it. Empty is honest.

RFQ line that survives an audit

Write the certificate and the clause. Example: “IATF 16949, scope: machining of [family], FAIR to [standard].” Name the model from /machines if the builder’s catalog lists it.

Questions buyers type into Search

Does IATF 16949 mean the factory can cut my print?

No. Scope, entity, process and the machine that will run the job still have to match. The certificate is a quality-system claim, not a travel table.

Can I treat an ISO 9001 logo as IATF?

No. ISO 9001 is the floor. IATF, AS9100D and ISO 13485 are separate rows on CNCVerified.
